Privacy Policy
This site is built to collect as little information about you as technically possible. Here's exactly what we do, and don't, see.
Last updated May 2026
The short version
Nothing you type into our calculator leaves your browser. Every calculation runs in JavaScript on your own device. We never receive your age, income, savings, household composition, postcode or any other answer you provide. We have no database of users. We have no login system. We have no way to identify you.
The longer version below explains the limited information we do see (and the third parties โ Cloudflare, possibly Google in future โ that may see) in detail.
Who we are
The data controller for this site, where any data controller relationship exists, is TheBenefitsCalculator.co.uk (an independent UK publisher), based in England, United Kingdom. You can contact us at [email protected] about anything in this policy.
What the calculator stores
The benefits calculator on this site is a "client-side" tool. The HTML and JavaScript files are downloaded to your browser when you visit. After that, every calculation happens entirely on your device. Your inputs are held in your browser's memory only for as long as the page is open, and then discarded. They are never sent over the internet to us or to any third party.
We do not currently use cookies or browser localStorage to remember your answers between visits.
What our hosting provider sees
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (operated by Cloudflare, Inc.). When you visit any page, Cloudflare's servers automatically log certain technical information needed to serve the page, including:
- Your IP address.
- The page URL you requested.
- Your browser type and operating system (from the User-Agent header).
- The referring URL, if any.
- The date and time of the request.
This information is used for security (blocking abuse, mitigating DDoS attacks) and for short-term operational logging. Cloudflare's own privacy policy applies to its handling of this data โ see cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics (cookieless, aggregated only) to measure how many people visit which pages. This provides:
- Page-level visit counts.
- Approximate country of visitor (derived from IP, not stored as IP).
- Referring sites.
- Browser type, in aggregate.
Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless and does not use any persistent identifier. It cannot track individual users across sessions or sites. No personally identifying information is collected.
Cookies
At the time of writing, this site sets no first-party cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full detail, including how this may change if we add Google AdSense in future.
Advertising (planned, not yet active)
If and when this site is approved for the Google AdSense programme, we will begin displaying advertisements on some pages. AdSense uses cookies to personalise advertising. When that happens, we will:
- Update this policy and our Cookie Policy to disclose what AdSense collects.
- Show a UK GDPR / PECR-compliant consent banner that gives you a meaningful choice to accept or reject advertising cookies before any are set.
- Ensure non-personalised ads are served if you reject the consent.
You can read Google's data-handling policies at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Third-party services we currently use
- Cloudflare Pages โ hosting and CDN. Sees the technical logs above.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics โ aggregate, cookieless visitor counts.
- Google Fonts โ the Fraunces and Geist typefaces are loaded from
fonts.googleapis.comwhen you visit a page. Google may receive your IP address and User-Agent as part of this request. We will self-host the fonts in a future update to remove this dependency. - Cloudflare CDN for Tailwind CSS โ our CSS framework is loaded from
cdn.tailwindcss.comfor the current build. We will inline a compiled stylesheet in a future update.
We do not currently use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other behavioural tracking technology.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access any personal data we hold about you.
- Have it corrected if it's wrong.
- Have it erased.
- Restrict our processing of it.
- Object to processing.
- Data portability.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
In practical terms: because we do not collect any personally identifying information through the calculator, there is no personal data on our systems to access, correct, erase or port. The most useful exercise of these rights against us is to email [email protected] if you previously contacted us and want us to delete your email correspondence.
Children
This site is intended for adults (16+). We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, particularly as we add features or third-party services (such as AdSense). The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
